HEART AND SOUL

THE DOCUMENTARY | SCARAMOUCHE

Once upon a time…

...there were no smartphones. A time without Facebook and Instagram.. The stars were present on TV, on the radio, in magazines - and on stage.

Our music documentary “Heart and Soul” tells a nearly forgotten tale from that time. The story of the cult rock band „Scaramouche“ from Lahr, Germany. From 1993 to 2001 “Scaramouche” played up to 80 concerts a year in Germany and Luxembourg, released three studio records and had a big fan base.

“Scaramouche” emerged 1993 as the follow up band of the already popular band „Acres Wild“ from Lahr. The brothers Frank Vetter (Vocals, Keyboard) and Marc Vetter (Drums, Vocals), Gert Endres (Guitar, Vocals) and Thomas Schwendemann (Bass, Vocals) released their first studio album „Born in December“ in 1995. The album was a surprise hit, the band got their first record contract and was played on radio and TV.. Their first single „Jeans Song“ was named „Single of the Month“ of Warner Music. Three albums followed „The Bigger The Better“ (1996) und „Belle“ (1999). „Scaramouche“ played festivals with bands and artists like „Deep Purple“, „The Scorpions“, „James Brown“, „Inner Circle and „PUR“. Despite great reviews "Scaramouche" decided to split up in the year 2001.

The film “Heart and Soul” tells the story of the band, about dreams and hopes. A story about their competitors, which became friends, and a story about rock music. A story about the music scene in the 80s and 90s.

Just like everyone, our film team was also severely affected by the Corona Crisis. But even if the filming is at a standstill at the moment - we gathered 70 musicians from ten countries to set an example of solidarity during the Corona crisis: Under the name "Project United" the artists played the 30-year-old Scaramouche song "Side by Side" together and released the performance as a video. Due to the containment measures against the corona virus, the musicians recorded the song in their homes.
